After an hour’s journey by coach, we arrived in the attractive medieval market town of Saffron Walden.

We split into two groups for a private tour of the Fry Art Gallery (below) which has an exhibition on Edward Bawden and associated artists.

While each group was in the art gallery, the others visited nearby cafés for drinks and lunch.  Other attractions were the museum, Bridge End Garden (near the Gallery) which is a nice peaceful haven featuring a lovely herb garden and a hedge maze.  For those wanting to wander further afield, Audley End is about half a mile away.  Some benefitted from the sales and were very pleased with their purchases!

Not somewhere most of us would have thought of visiting as individuals, so a lovely day out with plenty of variety to suit everyone.
