NBAS Special Interest Day - The Golden Age of Dutch Art - Wednesday, 14 May 2025 - 10.30am to 3.15pm event FULLY BOOKED
We are delighted that Jane Choy-Thurlow will be joining us at St Andrew’s Church Hall, Bedford for three very special lectures. Jane will talk about the history and culture that brought this dynamic art to fruition. The Golden Age was a period in Dutch history, roughly spanning the 17th century, in which the Dutch were a major world power, leaders in trade and science and also in art. The paintings produced by Dutch artists are considered some of the greatest works of art in the world. Each of our three lectures will concentrate on one aspect of this glorious era:-
1. Intimacies and Intrigues and Who’s Who: History paintings and Portraits
2. Reality Show or Illusion? Genre painting
3. Mirrors of Reality! Landscape and Still Life paintings
Jane E. Choy-Thurlow gives lectures and tours at the Mauritshuis, Prince William V gallery and Huygens Museum Hofwijck in The Hague, The Netherlands. She has been involved with many exhibitions in the Mauritshuis and is a founding member of The Hague Arts Society. She received her BSc from Salem State University, USA, her MEd from Trinity College Dublin and continued art history studies at Leiden University. In 2018 she was given the honour of Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau by the Dutch King Willem Alexander of Orange for her knowledge and work in the field of the Arts, especially 15th to 17th century Dutch and Flemish art.
Cost: £45 including 2 course hot lunch and tea/coffee. We do hope you will be able to join us. Booking can be made at our lectures or on application via email.
