Pain, pain and more pain, whether physical pain or emotional pain, this Exhibition certainly conveys pain. There are relatively few pictures by Frida Kahlo but there are others inspired by her, as well as in the final room ‘Fridamania’ objects, whether dolls, or mats or other consumer goods. There are also photographs, her stunning jewellery, and even her colourful outfits such as the traditional tehuana dress.
A very moving image was the body cage Frida wore after her devastating accident. No one can doubt her bravery and determination as she painted in bed during these times. Her relationship with Diego Rivera was tempestuous. Some think that the pair became Mexico’s first celebrity couple.
Having seen the Tracey Emin Exhibition a few weeks before, I was not surprised to learn that Tracey admired her; there is a photograph of Tracey dressed as Frida. Although Tracey's Exhibition has finished, there is plenty of time to see Frida.
