The Wallace Collection - Caravaggio’s Cupid or Amor Vincit Omnia, 1601

Free exhibition concentrating on this one painting

Published: 23/01/2026

It is not often that an exhibition focuses on one painting. ‘Victorious Cupid’, on loan from Berlin, in return for ‘The Laughing Cavalier’, is explained and understood through prints and sketches beautifully displayed in side rooms, while the prize itself takes centre stage as the last thing we see. The chiaroscuro lighting highlights the allegorical and the real (the cherub’s face) and getting up really close, one is able to see the fascinating objects on the floor.

The picture was part of a grand and important collection in the palazzo of a great collector, Vincenzo Giustiniani and what a collection it must have been.

I hope some of you will be able to visit The Wallace, especially if in the vicinity; it’s worth a slight detour and can be seen in half an hour.
